Sandy Cove reverts to the polytrack

Tuesday, July 8, 2014

SANDY COVE runs back on the polytrack at Lingfield tomorrow. He has form on this surface and is a winner over this trip so must go there with a good chance. He is drawn 8 of the 10 runners and Richard Hughes takes the ride. He has been running consistently all season and was unlucky that the ground turned against him at Yarmouth last time out. There was a heavy shower of rain during the race and he didn't handle the surface which became very loose on top. He won't have that problem tomorrow so hopefully he will go very close.

ICE SLICE and AVIATOR also run on the all weather tomorrow but are running at Kempton. ICE SLICE is running back over a mile, a trip he won over, and he also has form on this surface. He hated the firm ground at Newmarket last time out so that form can be ignored. If he runs to the form of his win at Nottingham on good/soft ground he must have an each way chance in a competitive race.

To our knowledge this will be AVIATOR's first run on an all weather surface. We thought it is worth a try as an alternative to the turf. His long term plan though is to go hurdling in the autumn. The blinkers are on again as they did help last time but a little too much. He was a bit keen in them so hopefully Paddy Aspell can get him to settle in them tomorrow. He is drawn 2 of the 12 runners so hopefully he can do that from this draw.
