Weather may affect runners this week

The forecast for rain could alter running plans this week. Any rain that falls at Windsor tonight will benefit HIGHLAND CASCADE who makes her seasonal reappearance in a 5 furlong handicap. The trip is a slight experiment as her best form last year was over 6 furlongs but she has always shown plenty of speed at home. She worked nicely last Friday but will probably just need the run.

ROYAL WISH, an unraced Royal Applause filly, is to make her racecourse debut tomorrow evening at Leicester in a 6 furlong maiden. She had a slight leg problem last year so the decision was made to give her the whole year off and touch wood this has paid off. She is very green so will benefit from the run and James Eustace hopes the ground will not be too quick for her.

TRANSACTION is entered at Doncaster on Thursday evening. He will be running over 7 furlongs again as he ran well over this trip last time out. He should have improved again for that run so should run well as long as it does not rain too much there as he would like the ground to remain firm.

HIGH CARD has a choice of engagements but his choice of race will be dictated by the ground conditions. He has been entered for the Silver Trophy at Haydock on Saturday in the hope that the ground will come up soft. The forecast is for the North West to get heavy rain so if that happens he is most likely to run there. It is a big race but he will have a low weight and if the ground does become very soft it will really suit him and he will be allowed to take his chance in this valuable handicap. If the rain does not materialise he could wait for some alternative engagements next week.

WELCOME STRANGER ran a great race in the Hambleton Handicap at York last week, finishing fourth, especially as the race was run over a trip short of his best. WESTER LODGE showed improved form yesterday at Ripon finishing third, he is obviously improving. This was only his fifth race and he is progressing the right way. He seemed to stay the 12 furlongs well and a another race over this trip at Leicester on May 31st is his next target.
