Second for Holly on first flat ride

Monday, April 25, 2005

Holly Hall finished second on CHIGORIN last Monday and she gave the horse a very good ride. The horse ran really well for her and they just found one too good for them on the day. CHIGORIN had a busy week as he ran again on Saturday and finished a respectable third. He is a horse that definitely needs cut in the ground and seems to be improving so hopefully he will be winning before too long. WESTER LODGE ran well for a long way on Friday but seemed to need the race more than any of the runners so far. In general all the horses have needed their first run. WELCOME STRANGER ran really well for along way on Saturday and his next intended target is the Hambleton Handicap at the York May meeting. WELCOME STRANGER was bred by the owners and as this race is a Listed race, if he can get some black type by finishing in the first 3 it will help to improve the pedigree of the family. If the ground is fast the race should suit him and he could be capable of finishing in the first 3 as he is such a genuine horse.

RAFFISH runs tonight at Windsor in a competitive looking 12 furlong handicap. He is a very genuine horse but is possibly still a bit high in the handicap. The ground has been changed to good from good/firm which will be more to his liking. GENEROUS MEASURE is running at Warwick on Tuesday in a maiden but like all the other runners, will need the run. He showed very little last year but hopefully he will improve as a 3 year old.

TRANSACTION is entered for Newmarket on Sunday, 1000 Guineas day. He is entered in a 7 furlong handicap, the extra furlong should suit him. The jockey felt that the tactics were slightly wrong last time so he will be ridden more positively this time, hopefully this will help him. Having had such a successful time as a 2 year old he may just be too high in the handicap at present.
