First ride for Stevie on Sunday

Friday, June 24, 2011

Stevie Sanders is to have his first ride in a race on Baan at Uttoxeter on Sunday. Stevie has been at the yard since leaving the Racing School over 2 years ago, he works very hard and thoroughly deserves his chance. He has been schooling horses for a while and got a very good report from Yogi Breisner, the  well known jumping tutor, when he got his conditional jockeys license. Baan has been leased from the owners so will be running in Gay's colours. On his previous form he has a chance but the most important thing is that Stevie enjoys his first ride and both of them come home safely.

TORRAN SOUND also runs at the same meeting in a 2 1/2 mile handicap hurdle, he will be ridden by Mark Bradburne. His last run, which was on the flat, can be ignored as it came too soon after his previous run. He has been freshened up since then and is in good form at home. The trip should be ideal for him. His last run over hurdles was over 3 miles and he was running well until he made a bad mistake 3 out. It was probably a combination of the trip and the jumping error that caused him to fade out of contention that day. He was 4th over this distance at Huntingdon before that. He goes on any ground so any change in the going between now and then will not affect his chance. His form does look in and out but he is basically a very genuine horse who has been a bit unlucky on occasions. He should run very well on Sunday.

The horses have been running well, NOVERTON ran a particularly good race at Salisbury on Wednesday. She almost caused an upset and finished a close second to the favourite. She handled the soft ground well but had  also run a respectable race on fast ground first time out so is not ground dependant. James was delighted with her run, she is a nice filly for the future. She is a very straightforward type who has taken well to racing and will hopefully go on improving.
