Dunowen to follow up at Fakenham

Saturday, March 26, 2005

DUNOWEN has a good chance of continuing his winning ways at Fakenham on Easter Monday. Although the ground will be quicker than it was at Huntingdon this should not inconvenience him as he has form on all types of going. Luke Fletcher has elecetd to go to Fakenham to ride him rather than taking rides elsewhere so let's hope his loyalty is rewarded. The horse does seem really well at home, he has had a break since his last run and he does appear to run his best races when fresh.

On the same day, James Eustace saddles his first 2 year old runner of the season at Warwick. LOCAL FANCY, a Bahamiam Bounty filly, bred by her owner, Mr Shropshire at his West Dereham Abbey Stud in Norfolk. She seems forward enough at home to run a nice race but the draw can be a big influence at Warwick , draw 1 being a big advantage. The yard will obviously hope she runs well as it will give a line to the rest of the 2 year olds. She is however significantly the most forward at this stage.

RAFFISH is entered in a mile and a quarter handicap at Doncaster on Thursday. There are likely to be a huge number of entries in this race as it is the only 3 year olds only race over this trip for horses of his rating until the beginning of May. It does seem an extraordinary oversight by the raceplanners. He is likely to need the race as he has yet to come in his coat but due to the shortage of races James Eustace is obviously keen to run him in the right type of race. He thinks RAFFISH will definitely need a longer trip in due course but did not want to start the horse off over a long trip for his first run of the season.
