The weather may upset running plans as it is hard to predict what the ground is going to be like across the country later in the week. WELCOME STRANGER may head for York on Friday if the ground stays fast but the race may come a bit too soon after his fine victory at Ascot 8 days ago. He is not a very robust horse but he seems to have come out of the race particularly well. James wants to see how he is over the next couple of days before committing himself. If he does run he should run well and York should suit him particularly well. ROMANTIC GIFT is entered at York too but she need soft ground which looks unlikely at the moment.
HIGH CARD is a definite runner at Lingfield on Wednesday. He makes his racecourse debut in a 7 furlong maiden on the all weather. There are a lot of entries and the bigger yards are strongly represented but he should run respectably judging on his recent work at home.
ROYAL SAILOR and WESTER LODGE are both entered at York on Saturday. WESTER LODGE is also entered at Newcastle on Sunday and that is his preferred option but he will run where the ground is best. He is a nice horse and James was really pleased with his first run at Leicester. ROYAL LODGE will almost certainly run at York. He ran very green at Newmarket on his debut and has definitely come on for the run. He would possibly like some cut in the ground but should run well. Both these 2 year olds are nice big scopey horses that could make up into useful 3 year olds next season.
BLUE PATRICK is also entered at Newcastle on Sunday in a 7 furlong handicap, some rain would help his chances but he wouldn’t want it too soft. He does seem to act on most ground, if he gets a bit of luck in running he could run well. ANDURIL could make up the party to Newcastle. He is entered in a mile classified race but there is also an ideal race for him on the All Weather a few days later. James wants to look at the entries before making a decision for him.
