War Artist paints perfect picture

WAR ARTIST ran the perfect trial for the Prix de l'Abbaye by winning the Group 3 Prix du Petit Couvert at Longchamp yesterday. It gave James Eustace a huge thrill as it was only his second runner at this prestigious  track. He was given a peach of a ride by Olivier Peslier who is keen to ride him again in 3 weeks time in the Prix de L'Abbaye which is obviously his next target. It was a good performance yesterday as WAR ARTIST gave weight away to all the other runners and it was a fast time on ground given as officially good. The second horse, STERN OPINION, is thought of as potentially top class. He won a Listed race in Deauville recently and is clearly a progressive horse. Fingers crossed that WAR ARTIST remains in good heart over the next few weeks so he can head back to Longchamp with a genuine chance of Group 1 glory.
SALDEN LICHT is due have his first run for James Eustace at Wolverhampton on Thursday evening in an 8 1/2 furlong conditions race. He is a Listed winner in France but has been off the track for a while. He has been waiting for the soft ground but that hasn't happened so he is trying the polytrack instead. The surface should be fine for him but he may find the track a bit sharp. He could be an interesting horse for the future.
There needs to be some significant rain in East Anglia for CAVENDISH to take up his engagement at Yarmouth on Thursday. He is coming back from injury and will only run if the rain that is forecast does materialise.
