Encouraging runs by Chigorin and Considine

Monday, September 6, 2004

Both CHIGORN and CONSIDINE ran good races in defeat last week. CHIGORIN was third at York but was a bit unlucky as he was stopped twice when he was trying to make his run, when he did eventually get through he ran on well. It was an encouraging run especially as James still feels he is a weak horse and should go on improving with time. CONSIDINE could probably have finished closer than fourth at Kempton on Saturday if he had made the running but he is definitely back too form and should be winning again soon.

There is plenty of action this week starting today at Warwick. MISTER AZIZ is running in the 6 furlong nursery and should run well even though he would ideally like a bit of cut in the ground. He has got a good draw and should run a decent race but it does looks a competitive contest.

On Tuesday WESTER LODGE makes his debut at Leicester. He has been working nicely at home but is a big horse so will definitely need the run. He is hopefully a horse with a nice future ahead of him so it will be interesting to see how he runs.

The Doncaster St Leger meeting begins on Wednesday and there 2 runners there. HIGHLAND CASCADE runs in the 6 furlong nursery. She has had a break at her owners stud and has done really well but may just need this run. She appears to be reasonably handicapped and has been working well so hopefully she will give a good account of herself. On the same day TRANSACTION runs in the valuable Doncaster sales race for horses bought at the St Leger sales last year. There is prizemoney down to 10th in this race so it is well worth running. There are horse rated above him in the race but he should have a good chance of winning some prizemoney

On Friday it is the turn of ELMS SCHOOLBOY to make his debut . He is running at Sandown in a 5 furlong maiden. Hopefully he will have enough speed for this trip but Sandown is a stiff track which should help him. He again will need the run but he is a horse with a future and is another interesting 2 year old to emerge this week.

WELCOME STRANGER is entered at Doncaster on Saturday but is currently 4 pounds out of the handicap. He will not run unless the top rated horses come out of the race and the weights go up. If he doesn’t run there he will wait for a race at Ascot at the end of the month.
