Wet weather upset race plans

Tuesday, August 31, 2004

Unfortunately the persistent wet weather washed away most of last week’s intended runners. However RAFFISH ran a promising race yesterday at Warwick to finish a close fourth, a vast improvement on his previous run. He had been working nicely at home so it was no great surprise despite his long odds of 40-1!

Some of last weeks intended runners are entered this week. On Wednesday CHIGORIN heads for York. He is still a bit of a big baby but is maturing slowly. If you can forget his poor performance at Newmarket he is capable of running well, especially if the ground remains on the soft side of good.

RUBY WINE, who run such a promising race at Newbury on her debut, has a choice of engagements. At the moment she is an intended runner in a 7 furlong maiden race at Salisbury on Thursday. This is traditionally a good maiden race, James is keen to find out how good she really is so he can make future plans for her. She is also entered in a conditions race at Kempton on Friday where she could be re routed to if it looks as if there won’t be many runners. MALAK AL MOULOUK is also entered at Salisbury on Thursday. He is being dropped back in trip as he clearly didn’t stay last time he ran. It looks a good race for him.

On Friday, BLUE PATRICK, is entered in a mile apprentice race at Kempton. The extra furlong should suit him on this track as he was staying on well over 7 furlongs on his last run there. The handicapper is at last giving him a bit of a chance so hopefully he should run well.

The only runner at the weekend is CONSIDINE at Kempton on Saturday. He was disappointing at Sandown on his last run but it was probably the way he was ridden on the ground that day. He is definitely better than that and still seems to be in good form at home. He would probably appreciate the ground drying up a bit.
