First time on the fibresand for Lady Avenger

Monday, September 29, 2008
LADY AVENGER runs in a valuable 5 furlong handicap at Southwell tomorrow. It is her first try on the fibresand and James Eustace feels it could suit her as she does need soft ground on the turf. She has a habit of being slowly away in her races  so she is being equipped with blinkers for the first time in the hope that it will sharpen her up out of the stalls. Over 5 furlongs you can not afford to give ground away at the start. It is on the straight track and she is drawn in the middle which should be good provides she breaks well.
On Wednesday there are 2 runners at 2 different meetings. WESTER ROSS returns to Salisbury and to a trip of 14 furlongs. He has run well over this course and distance before so hopefully he will run well again. There is rain forecast but the ground should remain fast which should suit him. Last time out at Goodwood he didn't quite get home over 2 furlongs on holding ground. Back to a shorter trip and better ground should see him going close again on Wednesday. MISTER STANDFAST makes his racecourse debut at Kempton over 7 furlongs. He has been working nicely at home but will not be helped by the draw, 1 of 14, right on the outside. This will make it very tough for him first time out but hopefully he will run a nice race and will be a nice horse for the future.
