Cavendish gallant second at Newcastle

Sunday, June 8, 2008
CAVENDISH ran a gallant race last night at Newcastle, finishing second beaten 1/2 length. He was drawn on the outside which was a disadvantage even over such a long trip. It was a good run though especially carrying top weight.
Tomorrow AT THE MONEY is hoping to keep up his winning form after his fine victory at Goodwood last time out. He is running over 2 miles 1 furlong at Pontefract. The ground is drying up a bit now and it should be good ground tomorrow which should be OK for him. He has been in good form at home since Goodwood so is expected to run well again tomorrow. KHARKY SCHULTZ is also running there in a 6 furlong handicap. He has not got a good draw and is taking on older horses for the first time so it is a tough ask but if he runs up to his Great Leighs form he could run well. He was unlucky in running at Newmarket last time out so that form is best ignored.
COLTON returns to the flat at Folkestone tomorrow after a couple of good efforts over hurdles. The ground there is good/firm which he will like and the trip of 12 furlongs should be fine for him so hopefully he will run a good race.
