Pochard and Cavendish both win again

Thursday, May 8, 2008
The stable has hit top form with 2 more winners in 2 days. POCHARD was obviously none the worse for her exertions last Friday and won impressively at Fakenham yesterday. James Eustace was slightly concerned about the drop back in trip and the faster ground but she handled both extremely well. It was great for her owner, Jenny Shaw, who was there to cheer her winner on and she is looking forward to breeding from her in the future. The trainer's ambition is to make POCHARD a winner over hurdles, on the flat and over fences but she will stick to hurdling for her next run. The plan is to head back to Fakenham on May 18th for a 0-100 3 mile novice hurdle. They do a great job with the ground there as it is nearly always good even in the summer months.
CAVENDISH delighted his connections too at Catterick on Tuesday. he seemed to relish the step up in trip, winning well despite not handling the track particularly well and he idled a bit when he hit the front. As the ground seems to be drying up everywhere now he will probably run at Wolverhampton next Monday with a penalty. Unfortunately Luke Morris, who seems to get on so well with the horse, is banned that day so Barry McHugh has been booked to ride him. He will claim 7 pounds and looks a promising apprentice.
WESTER ROSS is the only other runner this week. He runs in a 10 furlong handicap at Nottingham tomorrow. He is now rated 74 so is eligible for 0-75 handicaps which is a drop down in class from the races he has been contesting. He has had one run this season but after a long break so may just need this run too. The drying ground shouldn't be a problem so hopefully he will run a decent race in this grade.
Finally James Eustace would like to say a huge thank you to all the staff for all the hard work they have put in since Christmas. All the horses are running really well and it is mainly due to their hard work that this is possible. It is nice to see their loyalty and dedication rewarded with good results.
