Turf season gets into gear

James Eustace gets into top gear this week with 4 runners including the first 2 year old runner of 2008. It will be his first turf runners with horses fresh from a winter break. He is very pleased with their wellbeing and is hopeful they will run well and give him some pointers for the season ahead. He does feel that the 3 year olds will all benefit from a run though.
DOUBLE ON RED sets the ball rolling at Nottingham tomorrow. She will like the soft ground as she ran well on similar ground at the end of last season, finishing a close second at Yarmouth. She wore blinkers that day but James Eustace does not feel she needs them so will be without them tomorrow.
On Thursday JOE CASTER will be the first 2 year old runner of the new season. He runs in a median maiden at Leicester and there are only 6 runners, he has a good draw in 3. He has been working nicely and seems to know his job at home. The ground will be a question mark as he has done all his fast work at home on the polytrack. The ground is soft at the moment but the forecast is for dry weather. James Eustace just hopes the ground does not become tacky as this can be quite testing for 2 year olds first time out.
SUNNY SPRITE makes his seasonal debut in a maiden  at Wolverhampton on Friday evening. He ran well in 2 maidens at the back end of last season so if can run to that form he should run well. He may just need the run more than the 3 year old fillies though as he is a much bigger horse.
SECOND OPINION is the final runner of the week at Lingfield on Saturday. She runs in a 6 furlong maiden on the polytrack against the colts. Annoyingly there are no suitable fillies only maidens over the next few weeks, race planning at it's best again. She has worked nicely on the polytrack at home so the surface shouldn't be a problem. She ran a very promising race on her debut last year finishing fourth. She then disappointed at Bath but the ground was very firm that day so hopefully that was the reason. If she can reproduce her first run she shouldn't be too far away on Saturday.
