Big Raid on Newbury

Tuesday, December 18, 2007

James Eustace is sending a team of 3 horses to Newbury tomorrow. Newbury are very hopeful of being able to race tomorrow as they are employing frost blankets to cover the track. COLTON was going to go to Uttoxeter on Friday but with colder weather forecast for the end of the week there is some doubt about the meeting going ahead. He was second on his first start over hurdles at Huntingdon and the fourth horse has come out and won a race since so the form is working out well. Tomorrow’s race does look as if it will be a hotter contest though. James Eustace is slightly worried about the ground as he is fast ground horse on the flat and the going at Newbury is Good/Soft.

POCHARD is a lovely big mare and will be making her debut over hurdles tomorrow. She is still very green over hurdles at home so will definitely need this first run. James Eustace is hoping she has a nice introduction and jumps round well.

The third runner tomorrow is CAVENDISH. He jumped really well on his debut at Fakenham. He faded in the closing stages to finish fourth. He will be ridden with different tactics tomorrow. At Fakenham he made the running but hopefully tomorrow he will be dropped in so he can hopefully run through horses in the closing stages and prove he does he get the trip.

All 3 horses are in great form at home so it could be an interesting day tomorrow. It would be nice to finish the year on a good note.
