Big D is to make his racecourse debut at Lingfield on Wednesday when he will be riding CAVENDISH in an amateur rider’s race. He has been given permission by Harrow to take the ride as luckily on Wednesday’s they have no lessons in the afternoon anyway and the only lesson he will have to miss is double photography! The last Harrovian to have a day off to ride was fellow Newmarket trainer W.Jarvis
Big D was planning to have his first ride on CAVENDISH at the end of the summer holidays but the ground wasn’t suitable. He has ridden the horse a lot at home so knows him well. Although the horse has never run at Lingfield before he seems to prefer a left handed track and has always run well at Wolverhampton. His best form on the all weather to date has been over 9 to 10 furlongs, the race on Wednesday is over 12 furlongs but the extra trip shouldn’t be a problem. He has won over 1 furlong less than this on the turf. He has a good draw, 3 of 13 which should help big D to get a good position early on without having to make the running.
It will be a very exciting day for big D as I know he has been looking forward to this moment for a long time. I am sure he will give the horse a great ride and we wish him the very best of luck.
The rain came in time for AT THE MONEY to take his chance at Cheltenham yesterday. It rained so hard that they had to abandon the last race. The weather was terrible but he put up a creditable performance on only his second start over hurdles. He made the running and jumped well except for 2 mistakes at the downhill hurdles. He finished 9th and will have learnt alot from this experience.
