2 year olds ready for racecourse debut

Tuesday, May 11, 2004

The 2 year olds are coming to hand and some entries have been made for them in the forthcoming week. HIGHLAND CASCADE, a homebred filly by Tipsy Creek, is ready to make her debut at Yarmouth on Friday in an auction race and she gets in with a handy racing weight of 8st 2lbs. She has been working nicely at home and James hopes she will run well. Whatever she does on Friday she is expected to improve for the run.

ROMANTIC GIFT, another homebred 2 year old, is entered in a 5 furlong fillies maiden at Windsor on Monday. She probably needs 6 furlongs, or even further in time, but Windsor is a nice track for her debut and she is expected to run respectably. She is by the highly successful sire Cadeaux Genereux.

Other runners are thin on the ground, CONSIDINE has entries at York, Nottingham and Ripon. James would like to run him at Nottingham over 14 furlongs but the race is for older horses aswell as 3 year olds so he has a very low weight. The problem is that races over this distance for 3 year olds only do not start until June. It is very hard to take on the older horses so early in the season. The other races he is entered in are only over 12 furlongs and he will only run if the ground is genuinely soft.

Finally LOCATOR is entered at Newbury in a mile maiden again. He ran respectably last Saturday but he is still a big baby. He is a nice horse in the making but will probably still need the run on Saturday.
