Hopes High for Pontefract

Tuesday, April 27, 2004

James is hoping that Pontefract survives a 7am inspection tomorrow morning as he has 2 good chances there. EMPRESS EUGENIE, who ran such a promising race at Windsor last week, seems to have found an ideal opportunity to break her duck. She has the best form of those who have run but David Loder runs an unraced colt which could obviously be anything. The filly will like the ground and the 10 furlongs should not be a problem to her. You can forget CONSIDINE’S last run at Southwell as he never got into the race as the trip of a mile was too short for him and he didn’t enjoy the kickback. James expects him to run much better tomorrow over 1 /2 miles. There are only 6 runners and he has a low weight. He has never run on soft ground but James is hopeful that he will act on it. Daytime Girl, the top weight, is the one to beat.

On Friday James runs a nice filly called ANATOLIAN QUEEN in a mile maiden at Nottingham. She has been working nicely at home and James hopes she will run well. She is potentially a nice filly for the future.

WELCOME STRANGER is in the Thirsk Cup on Saturday but needs a few horses to come out of the race for him to get a run. It would be a good race for him as the track should be ideal. Thirsk is similar to Newcastle where he ran his best race last season and they are sure to go a good gallop which he needs. The ground could be a worry as James is not sure that he would want it very soft. LAST APPOINTMENT is entered at Warwick on Bank Holiday Monday but needs fast ground. It will be his first run of the season so may need the run as he is a big horse.

ANDURIL ran very well at Brighton last Sunday to finish a close third, it was his best run to date. He is definitely improving with every race and should hopefully be winning soon.
