Eye-Catching debut by Empress Eugenie

Tuesday, April 20, 2004

EMPRESS EUGENIE made a very pleasing debut at Windsor on Monday evening. She finished 4th of 18 in a good maiden and the winner is held in high regard by her trainer. Before the race James said he would have been delighted if she had finished in the middle of the field. Hopefully she will improve significantly for this first run as she was very green and should appreciate a longer trip. She has gone into many people’s notebooks after this encouraging run.

FOUR KINGS was disappointing at Southwell today and James was completely baffled by his run. He is sure the horse is better than this but at the moment is at a loss to explain today’s poor performance.

There are a couple of runners at the weekend to look forward to. WELCOME STRANGER has come out of his run of the season well and heads for Sandown on Saturday if he gets into the race, there are a lot of entries. It is an ideal race for him and the track should suit him well. ANDURIL runs at Brighton on Sunday and hopefully he will have more luck in running than he did at Beverley last time, he was unlucky not to be in the first 4. Brighton is not the easiest track for horses but James hopes that as the horse appeared to handle Beverley he will be able to cope with Brighton. The horse is still a bit green and is still learning so hopefully there is more improvement to come.

A bunch of 2 year olds came up Railway Land grass gallop this morning so they are getting ready to run. MISTER AZIZ and ROMATIC GIFT are the most likely to run first and could appear on the racetrack over the next few weeks.
