First jump runners of the winter tomorrow

Thursday, October 13, 2016
Our winter jumps campaign kicks off at Fakenham tomorrow with 2 runners over hurdles,  PERCEUS and CAPTAIN FELIX. It would be nice to start the season well and they both could run decent races. PERCEUS runs in a 2 1/2 mile handicap and there are 11 runners. He ran a very respectable race in his comeback run on the flat in the Cesarewitch trial. He ran very well for a long way but just got tired in the closing stages. We hope that 2 1/2 miles on ground which, will be on the soft side of good, will suit him and he should handle the track. The main unknown is whether the handicapper has treated him harshly rating him 120. The only way to find out is to run him so we are hoping for the best.
CAPTAIN FELIX runs in a 2 mile novice hurdle and there are 8 runners. He was trained on the flat by George Scott, who very kindly suggested that he came to us to go hurdling. We hope that he will get the trip but he has won over 10 furlongs on the flat and the ground should not be too testing tomorrow. Jack Quinlan, who rides both runners, has schooled him at home and he has jumped well. He appears to enjoy jumping and is in good form at home so he is an interesting runner.
