Orcadian off to Ascot

Thursday, May 25, 2006

ORCADIAN has come out the York race extremely well so he is going to take his chance at Ascot this Saturday. It was not the original intention to run him so soon after York but with the horse in such good form and the ground in his favour he is going to take his chance. He is running in a 12 furlong listed race which should be ideal for him. James Eustace feels that 12 furlongs is probably his best trip as he appeared to not quite stay the extra 2 furlongs last week at York. Neil Callan had been hoping to ride him but he is banned on that day, he lodged an appeal but was not successful. He will be ridden instead by Ted Durcan who has ridden him at home and on the track so knows the horse well.

The abandonment of Leicester on Tuesday and Salisbury tonight has rather altered running plans. LOCAL FANCY had a good chance at Leicester but she has another opportunity next Monday at Sandown but the race looks more competitive. She ran a very good race at Newbury to finish fifth and was doing her best work at the end. The uphill finish at Sandown should suit her well. ARIODANTE and WESTER LODGE also have entries at Sandown but the ground is unlikely to be suitable for them so they are doubtful runners at this stage.

COLTON and AT THE MONEY were both due to run at Salisbury tonight but have alternative engagements next week. Colton could go to Redcar on Tuesday if the ground is not too soft. He ran very well at Windsor last time out over 6 furlongs so is running over that trip again but may be suited by further in time. AT THE MONEY is entered at Leicester over 12 furlongs and at Sandown over 14 furlongs on Tuesday. James Eustace will have a look at both races before deciding which race he will run in. The foRm of his races this season have worked out well so he should have a good chance wherever he runs.
