First runners on Kemptonís new all weather track

Monday, May 1, 2006

James Eustace is having his first runner on the new all weather track at Kempton today. This surface seems to be the future as more and more all weather tracks are being developed. KAPIOLANI is to have her second run there in a mile maiden. She was slowly away on her debut at Yarmouth but has definitely sharpened up at home after this first run. She is a nice type of filly but will probably find one or two too good for her today. James Eustace hopes she handles the surface well as she will not appreciate firm ground so it will give him more options for her once the ground dries up.

COLTON also runs today but on the turf at Windsor. He was gelded and put away after his second run last year as he became rather a handful. Typical of his sire Zilzal, he has an excitable temperament and needs to learn to relax and settle both on the racecourse and at home. He is a nice big horse and is showing some speed at home. He is running over 6 furlongs today as last time he ran over 7 furlongs he was too keen. Hopefully today he will be able to get settled and run a nice race. He has not run for 237 days so is likely to need the run today.

AT THE MONEY is entered at Pontefract on Wednesday in a 12 furlong handicap but so is Bollin Derek who has finished in front of him on both his starts this season. If the rain comes in time he may take his chance on Wednesday otherwise he could wait for a 14 furlong handicap at Nottingham the following week. FLYING VISITOR is also entered on Wednesday at Kempton in the evening. This will be a her first run and she will need it as she is very laid back and will definitely need a race or 2 to sharpen her up. She was too backward to run at 2 but she is out of a half sister to Welcome Stranger who improved with age so hopefully she can do the same.
